WORShip

Chances are you've never seen anything quite like the worship experience you'll find at Resurrection in the City. We are liturgical in that we have a set agenda for our worship services that is used week after week. We also observe many ancient customs like the lighting of candles and the wearing of vestments. But we are also very comfortable, in that people dress in a variety of ways, children move like children, and there's an overall vibe of relaxation, peace, and happiness.

Our music is eclectic, and we have a tremendous amount of musical talent for a congregation our size. We have a house band on every first, and third Sunday of the month led by the great Chuck Abernethy, specializing in old spirituals, blues, Gospel, and jazz styles in celebration of our congregation's rich African American cultural component.

On other Sundays, we have wonderfully talented guest organists and pianists playing traditional hymns and other styles. Every Sunday Pastor Duane offers an in-depth, Scripture-based message that is a bit longer but much more relaxed than a traditional sermon, incorporating a lot of back-and-forth discussion and engaging participants of all ages. For a link to a video recording of a sermon, contact us with the date you're looking for.

We also celebrate The Lord's Supper (or Holy Communion / Eucharist / Mass) every Sunday. If you plan to visit you are encouraged to contact our pastor about what we believe about this special meal and how we practice it so you can be well prepared. Come join us sometime and we will be mutually blessed. We absolutely mean it when we say "Everyone is welcome!"
